One type of case that is commonly mediated at our center is between landlords and their tenants. These disputes involve security deposits, unpaid rent etc. If you are involved in this type of dispute, helpful landlord/tenant information and resources can be found by clicking on the link below (you can also download the residential landlord/tenant handbook there too). http://cca.hawaii.gov/ocp/landlord_tenant/

Mediation is an accessible and affordable alternative to court for resolving a variety of conflicts and disputes. If, however, you find yourself in need of more complex legal advice/representation but do not understand the legal system and/or cannot afford an attorney, there are organizations that can help: Volunteer Legal Services of Hawai'i http://www.vlsh.org/home/home/ provides free or affordable legal help to low-income residents and nonprofit organizations statewide. The Legal Aid Society of Hawai'i http://www.legalaidhawaii.org/ and http://www.lawhelp.org/hi also provides access to justice for those who cannot otherwise afford it.
